Snapchat
has another Facebook owned competitor snatching for its users. We are talking
about latest WhatsApp's encrypted Status feature.
In
the context of its 8th Birthday on 24 Feb , 2017, the instant messaging
platform banged its users with a new feature for sharing bedazzled photos ,
videos and GIFs(Graphics Interchange
Format) as Status.
WhatsApp
revamped Status feature will allow users to flaunt their status in far better
way. Those people who are using Snapchat can easily relate to this...(and
Instagram users too who are addicted to Instagram Stories). These photos ,
videos and GIFs will disappear automatically after 24 hours of Status Update.
Similar
to the new security feature ,end-to end encryption this too will be end-to-end
encrypted.
Your
entire WhatsApp contact list can access your status within 24 hours of Status
update.
WhatsApp
will even allow your contact list to comment on your Status to make this
feature more social, but these comments will be private. This implies that if
someone reacts to your Status it will be delivered to your chatbox privately.
Now
arises the question that 'How can you check other's status?'. Here is the
answer, there will be a new tab between Chats and Calls which will feature all
Status update of your and of contacts of yours. So you can easily go through
Status updates from your contacts and can interact with them.
Let
me clear a doubt first, which may be arising in some of your minds. There will
be no feature like Timeline as on Facebook, the status will stay as long as you
update it or for a maximum of 24 hours from the time you updated it. It would
not be visible to your contacts or specifically your friends and family if you
delete the update from your phone.
There
will be various options within the Status tab, namely My Status, Recent
Updates, Viewed Updates and Muted. My Status will hold your most recent WhatsApp
Status . Recent Updates will show Status messages from your friends (contacts)
created within 24 Hours and Viewed Updates is self explanatory . Muted will
Show the Status Updates from those contacts whom you have muted.
This
feature is rolling out worldwide for all major smartphone platforms , iOS,
Android and hopefully Windows Phone also(just kidding, it is.)
