With the long- rumoured launch of Samsung Galaxy S8 and
S8+, bezel less display is becoming the new tech trend in the tech world
!!
Bezel-less is becoming all the rage, with almost every
manufacturer pushing out bezel-less devices to attract consumers. There are
many point to consider if bezel less is becoming the new tech trend of 2017.
While Xiaomi started the trend of bezel-less smartphone
with Mi Mix , LG followed soon with their flagship G6 coming up with almost
bezel-less design, and now even the galaxy S8 and S8+ has been announced with
bezel-less display and it definitely looks amazing.
With almost every other deice boasting about bezel-less
display, I think its time to take a deeper look into how bezel less is becoming
tech trend of 2017 and a lot of its pros and cons.
Xiaomi surprised the world when they announced the Mi Mix
and the phone looks absolutely amazing and if you like it on camera believe me
it looks a way better in reality.
Lets talk about some of the pros of bezel less display
first. Bezel less display as you'd expect are free to look at and make the
phone look futuristic. There is no denying that the phones like Mi Mix do
attract lot of attention and admiration. Also with the increase in screen to
body ratio, phones can manage to pack a larger screen on smaller size body.
However a higher screen to body ratio isn't of a great thing. The Mi Mix for
example comes in with highest screen to body ration of 83.6 %. Compare it with
LG G6 having screen to body ratio of 78.6%. however i still much rather use lg
g6 because small bezel on the sides are actually quite helpful and having the
proximity sensors and front facing camera on the right place isn't something i
am about to let go for a bezel less design.
Since
bezel less phone can manage to cram in larger display in a small footprint it
also means more easy to handle and use device but that is not the case with mi
mix. The aggressive reduction in bezels almost makes it more difficult to use.
However the phone like LG G6 and Galaxy S8 and S8+
seem
to have hit some sweet spot with bezel less display, managing to cram in a
proximity sensor and a front-facing camera in what I would call the right
place.
All
is not sunny in the bezel-less world though , there are lots of cons to having
a phone with bezel less diaplay. For startes the ease with which the display on
a bezel less phone might damage on impact is just a lot higher than on phones
with bezels. Displays on these devices is realy vulnerable. Another big issue
is software optimization. Yeah we are talking about software in a video about
hardware. the point is that bezel less displays are always in contact
with the user's hand even when they are just holding the phone. The
software in these devices need to be optimized enough to know when the screen
is being touched because the user is holding the phone and when the screen is
being touched because the user is using the phone. That is a very important
difference to make and it can only be done with good software. Fortunately
devices like s7 edge S8, S8+ are extremely good at this.
Another
major problem with bezel less display is that there is not enough room for the
front cmaera to be properly placed or a front facing finger-print reader. Now a
days many people out that I know prefer a rear mounted finger-print sensor but
I am not one of them and them. Mi Mix is the classic example of the
front-camera problem. The bottom mounted front-facing camera is hassle to
use.
Personally
I don't think higher screen to body ratio is what the future of phones will be
like.
Bottom
line is I don't think bezel less is the future of phone but less bezels
probably is. :P
